Telecommunication Case Study A large Telecommunication company needed to develop a comprehensive medical and compliance program for it's over 10,000 employees in eight states. The company needed a program that could quickly and efficiently administer services to their regulated Network employees, but at the same time handle the complexity of non-disability claims by their Consumer Operations employees.
Requirments: Since many Telecommunications companies act as first responders to natural disasters, this client needed a medical program that would continuously monitor the compliance of their DOT and OSHA regulated employees, also known as "Network" employees, in eight States. To be in full compliance, the regulated employees needed to be enrolled in a random drug testing program, be medically certified to operate DOT regulated vehicles, and adhere to weight restrictions for specific job functions.
In addition to the Network employees, the Company also needed to develop a medical program for their telephone operators and general office administrators, also known as "Consumer" employees. The issue facing the Telecommunication Company was the ability to accurately and efficiently handle non-disability Fitness for Duty claims.
Solution: Since September 1995, Concorde has been administering a streamline medical services program for this Telecommunication Company. The program developed exclusively by Concorde incorporates substance abuse testing, medical certification, non-disability Fitness for Duty, and the recent addition of a Safe Load Weight Limit program. Through the combination of clinical facilities, on-site capabilities, and proprietary software applications, Concorde has been able to successfully reduce the strain of paperwork and compliance issues for the Company's Human Resources and Safety departments.
Pamela Horn, Concorde's Director of Nursing, has been the case manager for this program since its creation. She has been responsible for reviewing Fitness for Duty claims and acting as a point of contact between the client's Human Resource department and Concorde to answer policy related questions. On a daily basis, Ms. Horn and her Medical Staff review non-disability claims for Consumer Operations employees and make a medical determination based on the Company's own policy.
Nancy Schultz, Concorde's Director of Occupational Testing and On-Site Services, is credited with scheduling and supervising all of the Company's DOT physicals since 1995. Mrs. Schultz's dedication, experience, and accuracy has enabled her over the years to uncover drivers who were not medically qualified to operate a vehicle under DOT regulations. In addition to the standard DOT physicals, Nancy Schultz also monitors the Company's HAZMAT physicals examinations on-site.
As a product of managing a Company's program for over a decade, Pamela Horn noticed that this client lacked an efficient system for tracking the weights of employees who climb ladders, poles, and stand in bucket trucks, which are regulated by OSHA. Therefore, Pamela worked with Concorde's Software Architect, Kevin Kime, to develop a proprietary system for accurately tracking employee's weights. Although this weight-tracking feature of the program was not required by the client, everyone at Concorde understands the importance of going above and beyond the contract requirements.
Results: Throughout the past 12 years, Concorde has consistently and efficiently maintained the medical services program for our Telecommunication client. We believe we have met, and even succeeded, our goals for the program and we have dedicated ourselves to improving the program every year.
