Solid Waste
Concorde has been serving the solid waste industry for over 10 years and we have dedicated substantial resources to be the "go to" vendor for the industry. Concorde is the endorsed vendor of the National Solid Waste Management Association (NSWMA).

Why Choose Concorde?
We understand the difference between a front-end and rear-end loader, a transfer station and a landfill. Although this knowledge does not impact the services we offer, it does show that Concorde has invested the time to understand our solid waste clients better than any of our competition.

Background: A national Solid Waste company needed to create a DOT compliant New Hire Medical Services program for both Laborers & Drivers (DOT) and Officer Workers (non-DOT) employees. At the time, there were no companies in the screening and compliance industry that had a turnkey solution to for this type of program.

Requirements: Under this new hire program, both DOT and non-DOT employees needed to undergo substance abuse testing, physical examinations, back and strength flexibility, Hepatitis A/B vaccinations, and Tetanus vaccinations. In addition to those requirements, the company specified an optional Pulmonary Clearance Exam and Audiometry test. Finally, The Solid Waste Company wanted to separate their employee pool into two categories; Laborers & Drivers and Office Workers, to be compliant with DOT regulations.

Solid WasteSolution: Since a turnkey "New Hire Medical Program" did not exist anywhere in the industry, Concorde decided to create one from scratch for this Solid Waste Company. One of the reasons why there were no market solutions for this type of program was because this was a national company with sites in many states. The process of coordinating appointments for the list of New Hire requirements on a national scale can be cumbersome, unless you have a system in place to streamline the process.

Using Concorde's National Network of Occupational Health clinics, we were able to provide the requested services in close proximity to all of the Company's regional sites. Company employees would bring a "New Hire Medical Services" request to the clinic, which would identify the services required for their job category. Concorde also designed the "New Hire Medical Services" form to include a physical examination analysis to ensure hiring consistency.

Although the Solid Waste company employed DOT regulated drivers, Concorde already had in place a substance abuse testing process that followed DOT requirements. We use the DOT substance abuse requirements as a standard for all of our testing procedures. Concorde's certified Medical Review Officers (MRO) reviews the drug and alcohol results, interviews the donors, and reports their final results to the Company's Designated Employee Representative (DER).

Results:

  • Concorde has successfully administered the program since 2005
  • Concorde has been able to use the foundation of this model for other Solid Waste companies across the country.
  • Concorde administers hundreds of drug tests and physical examinations each year.
